Sara-Kay Carrel

Hi Gang!

Well, here I am last ready to go as usual! I'm always so busy taking care of everybody else that I forget what I need to get done! So, today for my birthday, I'm taking care of a few things for myself for once!

I guess I just didn't get enough of RAAM last year crewing for Team ALS/Bacchetta, so I'm back for more!

I am born and raised in Kansas, growing up in Wellington and now living in Hays. I have always been a cyclist. My mom will tell you "that girl has not been off a bicycle since she was two!" And, I'm proud to say I completely skipped the training wheel stage! Man, I had no time for that extra drag from two more wheels to slow me down! I love all types of cycling - mountain, road, cross, and recumbent and have raced in all of those bikes. I am far more experienced in mountain bike racing than any other, mainly because that is what is so predominant in and around KS.

By schooling, I have my B.S. (and still trying to finish my M.S.!) in biology with an emphasis in native plants and rangeland ecology. But, now, my profession by choice is manager of The Hub Bicycle Shop in Hays.

My regular customers love to call the bike shop "The Hub and Zoo". On a daily basis, my beautiful and spoiled yellow Labrador, Moonlight happily greets customers. During the commuting season, Moonlight will ride to work with me in a two wheeled trailer on days when I do my half commute to town. My goal this summer is to do the entire commute with Moonlight in the trailer a few times...with 96 pounds of dog trailing behind me for 32 miles (round trip commute), I'll definitely have to allow some more time! I also have a black and white rabbit, Bill, running around the shop greeting customers and keeping the kids busy so Mom or Dad can shop. Then, by night, he turns into the guard rabbit! There are also 2 chinchillas. And, depending on the time of year, an assortment of my five guinea pigs also resides at "The Hub Zoo".

Now, I had the greatest life experience on Team RAAM 2005. I'm ready for another great adventure for Solo RAAM 2006!

Bikes I really do own:
